Like most of you, I am a mum........ a mum of three boys in this household, two of whom are twins. Kaos, I hear you whisper? Yes, yes indeed lol my house is a tornado most days with 3 sons and a giant many baby lol ( yes I am speaking of my husband who seems to be my biggest baby, of all lol ). But apart from being a mum, I am also a professional accredited award-winning photographer, an artist, a musician, an easy-going country chick who grew up out west, but most of all I am YOU. I am the mum who wants those timeless memories on my walls, the memories of my family in love or having a laugh or adoring our family pets that I can share with generations in years to come be it on my walls or from my heart. I want all those memories too, so when you book in with myself you know you are getting exactly what you want because I want that too.
When I was a child I loved anything and everything in the animal kingdom. I owned goodness knows how many parrots and took in as many injured ones to rehabilitate. From having this love of all things fur and feathers grew my second passion, art!. My father was the artistic one in the family spending many hours perfecting his skills of sketching our feathered friends while I watched on. To say my attempts at the start to follow in my father's footsteps were a masterpiece would be way over exaggerating it lol, but there was potential there. Fast forward a few years and I soon caught up which resulted in myself selling many artworks at local markets and festivals. (mustn't have been too bad hey ). But you know what? This love of art and the finer eye for details has helped in my now passion and business venture as a photographer. Art in the way I shoot to capture who you truly are. Art also in another form in the way I edit with the eye for the finest of details.
What about my other passion, musician and performer?. I was a musician for many years, entertaining, placing in competitions, even winning a scholarship to attend the Tamworth College of Country Music. This career choice may be one I never pursued to the ends of the earth, but it too gave me some valuable life lessons. As a performer, you're taught how to talk to and include your audience in your performance, the same goes for photography. It's those same techniques that allow me as a photographer to communicate with my clients and portray exactly what they have in mind for their own family walls to be able to create heirlooms for generations to come by speaking your language.
I am a country photographer, I LOVE the country. The more rustic with barbed wire fences, cattle yards, open fields and sunsets the better. I LOVE forests also, green grassy fields, flowing streams, wildflowers and the sound of bellbirds in the distance is my heaven. I grew up in the country, on a five-acre piece of land surrounded by farmland. The nearest neighbour was at least 1-2kms away, peace and quiet to the max. My family was the type to wave if you passed by on the highway, pull up on the side of the road for a chat, put your feet up and relax at the end of a hard weeks work with a cool drink enjoying life.
Interesting extras
1. I grew up in the OLDEST town in QLD, Gayndah.
2. I am an only child who lived on 5acres of land surrounded by farms.
3. I have a Certificate II in Horticulture.
4. I originally wanted to be a vet nurse when I grew up.
5. I did a modelling course with Tamblyn models in Brisbane when I was 23.
6.Beccy Cole was my mentor/teacher at the Tamworth College of Country Music
7. I am a crazy chicken lady lol.
I am the one who knows what it is like to miss out on a memory because I was either too young to know any better or left it too late. The whole reason behind why K n J was born is due to the love and ever so fond memories of my best friend and grandmother Jill Nicholson who sadly passed of cancer when I was only 12 years old. I do not have one single photograph with her and you know what, that hurts. It's no one's fault really, photographs back then weren't treasured the way they are today. The generation of today knows the worth of an image due to the pain of losing a loved one and the potential soothing effect or emotional impact a photograph can create by looking back upon it. Or maybe it's because you have realised JUST HOW FAST our little ones grow even in a short period of time from birth to when they leave the nest. I even can see a massive difference in my own children when I miss a couple of months ( 3 ) photographing their life stories. Imagine if I left it for 2 or 3 years. How would I remember what they looked like at that time if I didn't have a photo? Or what if something happened to me in that time, what would they have to look back on? An iPhone of snaps....... nah that's not enough and definitely not good enough to be able to print up big and admire on my walls or bedside table.
So have a think about it, when was the last time you got your family together for a photo? Be it just your immediate family to update your own photos or get the extended family together for an extra specials shoot with grandma or grandpa or maybe it's for a newborn or milestone event be it your little baby has just been born/taking their first steps / graduating from high school? So what are you waiting for?
